A 55m modern classic sailing yacht is seeking a First Mate to join a well-established private program. This role is ideally suited to a strong sailor who has either been working as a Mate on yachts in the 25–35m range for a minimum of two years and is ready to step up, or an experienced Bosun looking to take on their first Mate position.

The ideal candidate will hold a minimum of Yachtmaster Offshore and have a genuine passion for sailing and life on deck. Candidates who are into surfing, spearfishing and diving will be given strong preference, as the owners’ sons enjoy these activities when onboard and the Mate will play a key role in facilitating them.

This is a hands-on, physical Mate’s role, suited to someone who is driven, sporty and energetic. You will be actively involved in all deck operations, sailing manoeuvres and daily running of the yacht. The deck team consists of three crew reporting to the Mate—a Bosun and two junior deckhands—so strong people skills are essential. The successful candidate will enjoy building a positive team environment and take pride in training, mentoring and supporting the growth of the junior crew onboard.

You would be joining in the Caribbean, latest in mid-March before the next owner trip. The summer season will be spent in the Mediterranean, followed by a return to the Caribbean for the winter, combining private trips with some racing. The owners are looking for someone interested in longevity and becoming a consistent, reliable part of the program.
