Rotational Engineer – 50m+ SY - World cruising
A 50m+ sailing yacht is seeking Rotational Engineer to join a well-established private program on a 10:10 week rotation.
The yacht is currently undergoing a major refit in Falmouth, UK, ahead of her relaunch in early summer 2027. This is an excellent opportunity to join during the refit, gaining a thorough understanding of the yacht's systems as they are serviced, upgraded and recommissioned before heading into an exciting sailing and expedition cruising program.
Following the refit, the yacht will take part in racing before embarking on an extensive cruising itinerary around the US, including plans for the Northwest Passage and Antarctica. The owner has had the yacht since new and is closely involved in the program, which operates with a crew of seven.
The successful candidate will be taking full responsibility for the yacht's machinery and technical systems while onboard. During the refit, they will work closely with the shipyard, contractors and manufacturers' engineers, assisting with installations, commissioning and sea trials. Once operational, the role will involve planned and reactive maintenance, troubleshooting, inventories and spares management using the IDEA planned maintenance system.
The yacht has a range of complex systems, including an MTU main engine with controllable pitch propeller, extensive hydraulics for the captive winches, furlers, keel and steering, alongside PLC/SCADA controls and power management. New generators, HVAC systems and water makers are also being installed during the refit.
They are looking for someone with previous engineering experience on larger sailing yachts who is confident across mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems. Strong fault-finding skills and previous refit experience are important, while familiarity with PLC systems would be advantageous. Experience cruising in remote or high-latitude regions would also be beneficial, particularly given the yacht's future itinerary.
With a crew of seven, the ideal candidate will be practical, organised and happy to work as part of a close-knit team, including assisting on deck when required. This position would suit someone who enjoys the technical challenges of a large sailing yacht and is interested in being involved in an extensive world cruising program.
